As World Reflexology Week approaches, I thought I’d take a moment to address some frequently asked questions.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic therapy that has been practised for over 5,000 years. It involves applying pressure and massaging specific areas of the feet, hands, or face, depending on the treatment you're receiving.
The theory behind reflexology is that these areas correspond to organs and glands within the body. By working on these points, the therapist aims to stimulate energy flow and encourage the body to begin healing itself.
What Are the Benefits of Reflexology?
Reflexology can offer deep relaxation, help reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance overall wellbeing. Since poor sleep and high stress levels are significant contributors to both physical and mental health issues, reflexology can be an excellent way to promote improvements in these areas and support general wellbeing.
What Can I Expect During a Reflexology Session?
At the start of the session, a brief medical history will be taken to assess your physical health and wellbeing. After that, all you need to do is remove your shoes and socks, lie back on a heated bed, and switch off; it's your time to relax! It’s not even ticklish.
Can Reflexology Help With Specific Conditions?
There are numerous small-scale studies from around the world suggesting that reflexology can benefit a wide variety of conditions. I have specialised training in Women’s Health, including Fertility and Conception, Maternity, and Menopause. I’m also trained in reflexology for Lymphatic Drainage.
Reflexology is a non-invasive treatment that aims to improve overall wellbeing, it treats the whole body rather than focusing on a specific issue.
What Can a Reflexologist Tell From Your Feet?
When working on your feet, I may feel different sensations in areas that correspond to specific organs and glands. These sensations can indicate blockages or imbalances, and through reflexology, we work to clear these blockages and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
How Will You Feel After a Treatment?
After a session, you may feel relaxed, calmer, more peaceful, and experience a stillness of mind. Many clients also report improved clarity of thought.
If you're looking to take time for yourself and support your wellbeing, reflexology could be a great option for you.
